There are KEY factors that must be highlighted to provide context for the Strategic Action Plan for the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) and the areas of strategic focus, strategies and actions underscored in this report. The trends/issues outlined in this Strategic Action Plan are realities facing cities and towns across Canada. They are singled out as significant factors that must be addressed by this city because they will create economic development challenges and opportunities for Thunder Bay and other Canadian communities in the next half dozen years.
In an era where change is a constant force, the resulting impacts upon society are profound, the ability to compete will be crucial and the demand for excellence in education and innovation will be paramount. This Strategic Plan should therefore be reviewed as a work in progress, amended and revised in keeping with anticipated future economic changes and emerging global opportunities.
The Thunder Bay Oils Sands Consortium (TBOSC) is a group of 25 companies located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, offering significant capability and capacity relating to the design, manufacture, repair, and installation of a broad range of products fabricated from metal. Collectively, the member companies represent over 500,000 square feet of facilities, and a workforce of approximately 800 employees. The Consortium members collectively have hundreds of years of experience and expertise in providing comprehensive, time-sensitive, and cost-effective solutions to the needs of heavy industry, including the Oil and Gas sector. They also have bonding capabilities.
